The newly constructed A Mao Colony Gate in Dimapur was formally inaugurated on Saturday by Dr. Zasekuolie Chusi, Commissioner & Secretary, Land Revenue Department, and Director of Census Operations, Nagaland, who graced the event as the special guest. The gate was dedicated by Pastor Purnungsang Pongen of AUBC, while the special guest unveiled the commemorative plaque.
Speaking at the programme, Dr. Chusi recalled his long association with the family of late Khekho Ashuhe, whom he described as a visionary and farsighted leader. He reminisced that his relationship with the family dated back to 1996 and highlighted their humility, reliability and contribution to community-building.
Paying tribute to late Khekho Ashuhe, founder of A Mao Colony, Dr. Chusi said the colony stands today as a testament to his leadership and philanthropic spirit. He urged the Land Records and Revenue officials present to ensure proper digital demarcation of the colony to prevent future land disputes. He also offered blessings to the family and the residents of the colony, calling for unity and continued progress.
Ward 3 DMC Councillor, Sentinuklu Jamir, in his address, described the occasion as a blessed day for the residents. He stated that A Mao Colony has grown significantly over the past three decades—from just a few households in 1992 to now housing more than 160 families representing all 16 tribes of Nagaland and residents from outside the state.
He credited the peaceful coexistence and development of the colony to the legacy of late Khekho Ashuhe and the continued contributions of his family.
Jamir acknowledged the philanthropic works carried out by the founder’s family, including earlier construction initiatives in memory of late Ashuhe, and expressed gratitude for their ongoing support to the community.
During the programme, a brief history of A Mao Colony was shared by Kaina Khekho, eldest grandchild of Khekho Asushe. Speeches were also delivered by former Naga Council Dimapur president and advisor to Kuda Village Council, Savi Liegise, and UNB-B Council chairman, I. Sungit Longkumer.
The event was chaired by A Mao Colony Welfare Society secretary, S. Hepuni John.
Later, a note of gratitude was shared by A Lohe Khekho, eldest son of Khekho Ashuhe and prayer of blessings was offered by pastor Neli, Moa Baptist Church, Chumoukedima.
