United Christian Higher Secondary School (UCHSS) marked its Golden Jubilee celebration on Saturday, under the theme, “From Golden Seeds to Glorious Trees”, at its school campus.
Gracing the occasion as the chief guest, Minister, PHED & Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi congratulated UCHSS for its five decades of service to society and expressed happiness that the school had produced many accomplished students over the years.
Reflecting on the school’s 50-year journey, the minister acknowledged that the early years of building an institution were far more challenging than the present day, and he thanked the pioneers whose vision and sacrifice laid the foundation for the school’s success.
He also lauded the current administration and faculty for continuing the legacy and ensuring consistent progress in academics and character formation.
Zhimomi further dwelt on human resource development, describing it as one of the toughest yet most essential sectors of nation-building. He emphasized that HR development remains a top priority for the Central Government to ensure progress, prosperity, and equity for all, stating that justice must be accessible “irrespective of everything”.
Highlighting the demographic strengths, he noted that out of India’s 42 crore population, nearly 60% comprises youth, terming it as the “nation’s greatest asset”.
Similarly, he informed that the state has around 40% of the population as youth, making the need for quality education and proper guidance even more crucial.
Zhimomi further expressed concern that many students who excel during matriculation and higher secondary often struggle later in life. Here, dwelling on contemporary Christian life, he opined that drifting away from God has been one of the underlying causes.
He further stressed the importance of acquiring both basic qualifications and specialization in a chosen field, adding that such preparation becomes a guiding principle for one’s journey ahead.
He also urged teachers and parents to take active role in shaping students’ lives, stating that good upbringing remains the cornerstone of future success.
Zhimomi who also emphasized on the current direction of Indian education system, noted that cultural identity and language would play a vital role in academic and personal development, and suggested that customary law could be incorporated into the curriculum to help students remain grounded in their roots while progressing academically. “We must strike a balance and move ahead, carrying our culture with us”, he stated.
