World Fisheries day 2025 was celebrated at Peren district on November 21 at Kevipele fishery, Kaleilwa ward in Jalukie town. The event was organised by Jalukie Valley fishery Co- operative society in collaboration with the Department of fisheries and Aquatic Resources Peren.
According to DIPR report, Deputy Commissioner Peren Hiazu Meru, who graced the occasion as special guest, thanked the fishery department and the fish farmers Jalukie valley for giving him opportunity to participate and shared his thoughts. He also thanked the district Fishery officer Peren, C.Dory Yanthan for organizing such programme, stating that the officer is conducting different kind of activities inspiring the public and showing the enthusiasm in serving the government and perfectly performing her service to the public in general.
Hiazu Meru highlighted the importance of sustaining fisheries management in the district and encouraged the gathering to go back to the nature and conserve the aquatic and ecosystem.
He also mentioned that as Peren district is such a good and fertile land given by God, the general public must sincere on their part. The D.C also informed the general Public that forthcoming Unity Mini Hornbill Festival in the Peren district will be commence from December 4 to 6 and urged everyone to participate in the festival.
Earlier president Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN), Mhonbemo Ngullie and Neitho- o Kuotsu joint director department of fisheries & aquatic resources, government of Nagaland also encouraged the citizen to generate more fish from which they can earn their livelihood.
They also urged the fish farmers to encourage one another and spread awareness on the value and important of rearing fish, while also encouraging the gathering to keep in mind that they are the keepers of the river for the future generations.
Different competition such as Angling and snail eating were also organized and Peren District Anglers Association (PDAA) was also launched and declared by thespecial guest.
Rev. Kuzierang Thou offered blessing for the day programme, while Akhiubo Kaurintah, president Jalukie Valley Fishery Cooperative Society Ltd proposed the vote of thanks.
