Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir, on November 22 distributed machinery, tools and equipment to women Self Help Groups (SHGs) at Longsa village under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM).
The initiative was sponsored by Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED), Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India
The programme was organised by the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission to promote beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood that would support villagers economically while benefiting the environment.
Addressing the programme, Supongmeren encouraged SHG members to take up the project with sincerity so that it could grow and not fade like many past initiatives. He also urged the Village Council to extend guidance and support to the women in their endeavour, stressing that collective effort was vital for the success of such schemes.
Agriculture Officer and team member of Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission, Temjenchuba Kichu, in his remarks, said that produces from Nagaland had significant market potential. He informed that if the first phase of the project succeeded, more benefits could be availed under the mission, thereby enhancing livelihood opportunities for SHGs.
