Under the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat (EBSB) programme of Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland hosted a delegation from its paired state, Madhya Pradesh, for a cultural and educational exchange tour aimed at fostering unity, mutual understanding and national integration.
The delegation, comprising 28 students and seven officials led by Dr. Mahesh Jain, joint director, Samagra Shiksha Madhya Pradesh, arrived in Nagaland on November 24. They were received by officials from Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, who provided an orientation on the state’s cultural landscape, educational priorities and the objectives of the EBSB initiative.
On November 25, the team visited Khonoma Village, Asia’s first “Green Village”, where they learned about the Angami community’s conservation practices, traditional agriculture and wildlife protection efforts. They also toured the Nagaland State Museum and Kohima Cathedral Church, gaining insights into the state’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
The delegation interacted with students at Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School on November 26, participating in the morning assembly and observing classroom activities. At TM Government Higher Secondary School, they joined in cultural and sports exchanges including kho-kho, tug-of-war and Naga traditional dances, fostering camaraderie and cultural appreciation.
The team also visited the Kohima War Cemetery to pay respects to soldiers of the Battle of Kohima, reflecting on Nagaland’s role in global wartime history. Before departure, the delegation is scheduled to visit the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre, Dimapur, to learn about bamboo innovation, skill development and sustainable livelihoods.
The tour embodied the spirit of national unity, encouraging cultural appreciation, peer learning and meaningful interaction among youth. Samagra Shiksha Nagaland expressed hope for continued collaboration under the EBSB framework to strengthen bonds between the two states.
