Nagaland DoPN to initiate smart pre-paid meters in 3 division

DIMAPUR, NOV 27 (NPN)

In commemoration of statehood day on December 1, 2025, the Department of Power, Nagaland (DoPN), will be converting the smart post-paid meters to smart pre-paid meters in Dimapur, Kohima and Chumukedima divisions in a phased manner.
According to chief engineer (D&R), the initiative is part of the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and consumers are requested to take note of the information.
DoPN also informed that an SMS would be sent to registered mobile numbers three days prior to the conversion to prepaid mode. Subsequently, notifications will also be sent for various events, including low balance alerts, disconnection notices, successful recharge confirmations, and reconnections.
To ensure uninterrupted power supply during the transition, the department said an emergency credit of Rs.300 would be loaded at the time of conversion. It assured that no disconnections would occur due to depletion of the emergency credit for up to five working days post-conversion.
The department said that this emergency credit, along with any additional consumption during the first five days, would be deducted from the first recharge amount.
The DoPN therefore, encouraged consumers to recharge their accounts before the emergency credit runs out or before the five-day period elapses.
It also informed that any outstanding dues that accumulated while the meters were operating in post-paid mode would be recovered in six equal instalments over six months. DoPN said payments must be made at the cash counters of the respective sub-divisions before the tenth of each month. Therefore, DoPN has stated that failure to pay any instalment by the 10th would result in disconnection of power supply.
Consumers can recharge their accounts at cash counters in the Sub-divisions, or the DoPN portal at www.dopn.gov.in, or by downloading the “Smart Meter – Nagaland” app from the Google Play Store for Android devices. The iOS version of the app will be available soon, DoPN added.
