Nagaland Traffic jams: NCD for long-term measures

DIMAPUR, NOV 27 (NPN)

Welcoming the revised traffic regulation by Dimapur police for smooth traffic management during festive season, the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has, however, urged the district administration to implement some long-term measures in order to mitigate the traffic woes of the city.
In a press release, NCD president GK Rengma and general secretary LK Peter Anal said Dimapur was reeling under constant traffic snarl and bottleneck in heart of the town. It said various schools in the heart of the city should use their respective campus to drop and pick students.
Further, NCD suggested that any new commercial constructions under the municipal jurisdiction should ensure mandatory parking space.
Even after Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) was completed and operationalised, NCD said the very purpose of the project infrastructure for easing traffic congestion in Dimapur was defeated due to its underutilization.
NCD said that for the reasons best known to the responsible authorities the night and day passenger buses were still allowed to operate from Golaghat road and Supermarket area during evening peak hours. NCD demanded such lacuna in effective monitoring of traffic management be rectified with a sense of urgency and priority.
Meanwhile, NCD welcomed the dismantling of illegal makeshift stalls below the flyover and its surroundings by Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) led by chairman in order to create more parking space.
Besides, NCD has reiterated its “zero tolerance” stance on any form of extortion and illegal taxation against the bona fide citizens Dimapur.
