District administrations of Phek, Niuland and Meluri, in collaboration with Sakhi One Stop Centres and under Mission Shakti, observed the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women cum launching of the ‘16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence’ on November 25.
Phek: At Town Council Hall, Phek, the programme was organised by the district administration along with SAKALP–DHEW and Sakhi One Stop Centre.
Deputy Commissioner Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, who is also chairperson of the District Level Community, Mission Shakti, in his keynote address, discouraged the tendency of looking down on women and opposed digital violence, which he said was becoming more challenging than physical violence. He urged parents to monitor internet content accessed by children and called upon citizens to uphold equality between men and women.
Guest speaker, SP Phek, Dr. Pritpal Kaur, stressed on gender equality in jobs and opportunities. Informing that more than 2.5 lakh cases of digital violence against women have been registered in the NCR portal, she urged men to change their mindset and shared the cybercrime helpline number 1930 for reporting.
The programme featured a song by Sakulu Lohe, was chaired by District Mission Coordinator, DHEW Phek, Vileno K. Thisa, and concluded with a signature campaign under the theme “He For She”. Altogether 60 participants from line departments, civil societies, churches and NGOs attended.
Niuland: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) organised a programme at Nikhekhu Village, Niuland, to commemorate the day and the ‘16 Days of Activism.’ Fifty youth participants attended the event. EAC Kelengunuo Solo, as keynote speaker, highlighted the theme and stressed the need for collective action to eliminate violence against women and promote gender equality.
Meluri: At DC’s Conference Hall, Meluri, the programme was organised by the District Administration and Sakhi One Stop Centre under Mission Shakti with the theme UNITE to End Digital Violence against all Women.
SDO (C) Meluri, Sakuchingmak, in his keynote address, underlined the role of Mission Shakti OSC and said the Church was an important platform to protect and prevent violence against women.
Guest speaker, Chiekerho Nyusou, Case Worker (legal), spoke on domestic violence, digital abuse, prevention of sexual harassment at workplaces, physical abuse and legal provisions. The programme was attended by heads of departments, civil society organisations, village council members, student leaders and church leaders of Meluri, Khumiasü and Riehuope. Centre Administrator, OSC Meluri, Jitsiasa Nyusou chaired the programme and led the OSC pledge.
