Sixty three years ago the great International Evangelist, Rev.Dr.Billy Graham made this declaration at Kohima, the Head Quarter of the warrior tribe. The location of the declaration was the Public Ground Kohima where a bamboo structure came up to be the platform. A part of the hind section of the platform collapsed in the midst of a service. Another moment a shooting noise from the point below Kohima (toward Zubza) alerted the gathering.
The Great Evangelist’s arrival Kohima was waited with much expectations by the inhabitants of Nagaland.
On arrival Kohima his arrival at the gathering was delayed but this gave a chance to sing away as many as possible the special songs the tribal churches had brought to the Crusade. Many of those singing groups would like to sing only in the presence of Dr.Billy Graham but the organizers made use of the waiting time to do away with most of the special songs.
There were other speakers too on the stage and many thought they were singing to the expected chief Evangelist. The timely movement of foreigner at that time was due to the need of proper scrutiny of foreigners entering Nagaland.
On arrival of Dr.Graham at the platform he was dressed as a Naga warrior covering the body, limbs and the head, finally with a spear on the right hand and a dao on the left hand. When the ‘putting on the armour of a warrior’ was complete he pointed the spearhead toward the sea of humans gathered to see and hear him saying, “I am a warrior for Christ”.
That was a moment when all gathered there must have swallowed their saliva with tears.
Will Rev.Dr.Franklin Graham come and renew that same declaration for the Nagas? If so, that will be a second blow the Nagas cannot ignore.
The Naga Christians should be neighbors to each other, not warriors to kill each other.
The Naga Christians should be warriors for Christ to fight the evils of the society and sow love in the world far and near.
