Nagaland Lerie Council Kohima adopts resolutions for public welfare

DIMAPUR

Lerie Council, along with GBs, Judiciary Board, Youth Organisation and Women Organisation, convened a meeting on November 24, 2025, and adopted several resolutions for the welfare of Lerie Colony and the general public of Kohima. In a press release, LPK, chairman Kevilezo and secretary Sukho Movi said that council resolved that no party or vehicle would be allowed to enter Lerie public places for entertainment after 7 p.m. Violators would be fined Rs.1000 and names published in local dailies, with surprise checks to be conducted. It further resolved that all shops within Lerie Colony—including barber shops, medical stores and bakeries—would remain closed on Sundays. Shops operating from shared living spaces were also directed not to entertain customers on Sundays. Violators would be fined Rs.5000 with effect from January 2026.
The Youth Organisation was authorised to check shops for expired goods and overcharging above MRP, and to penalise defaulters as required. The council reaffirmed that the ban on IMFL and other liquor within Lerie Colony would remain in force irrespective of state relaxations, with the Women Organisation tasked to monitor compliance. A prior resolution concerning the residence of certain labourers and business personnel within the colony was also reaffirmed. The council stated that the measure was intended to maintain harmony among residents based on past incidents, and clarified that both house owners and individuals involved would bear responsibility in case of violations.
The council added that this resolution was not intended to discriminate or humiliate any particular community, but to ensure congenial coexistence and harmony among settlers, citing previous incidents that had disturbed peace in the colony.
