Nagaland NPYF urges action on festive price inflation

DIMAPUR

National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Dimapur, has appealed to the district administration to strictly monitor price inflation during the festive Christmas season.
In a press release, NPYF Dimapur president, Zato Sema expressed concern over the steep rise in prices of essential commodities and consumer goods across markets, alleging that several traders and business establishments were charging excessively high rates, particularly targeting customers from far-flung and rural areas who depend on urban markets for seasonal purchases.
The organisation stated that such exploitative practices burden the public, especially economically weaker households, and stressed that the festive season should be a time of joy rather than financial hardship. It urged the district administration to maintain strict vigilance on price inflation, ensure adherence to fair pricing and legal provisions, and conduct regular inspections of market areas to prevent artificial hikes and exploitative trade behaviour.
NPYF further suggested the establishment of a dedicated public grievances cell, accessible through phone and online platforms, where customers could report instances of overpricing, unfair trade practices, or harassment by traders. It emphasised that prompt corrective action on complaints, including penalties and legal measures against violators, would protect consumers and promote a transparent and accountable market environment during the festive period.
The organisation also called upon traders and business establishments to uphold ethical practices and support the community during the season of goodwill.
