CorrespondentWOKHA, NOV 28 (NPN)

The 8th Inter-Departmental Sports Meet for both male and female categories commenced on Friday at the Town Hall, Wokha, bringing together various government departments for a two-day celebration of competitive spirit.
The opening ceremony was graced by Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar, as the special guest, while the closing ceremony will be attended by Superintendent of Police Wokha, T. Relo Aye, as the guest of honour.
In his inaugural address, DC Vineet Kumar expressed delight at the growing scale and enthusiasm surrounding the meet. He emphasized that departmental sports provide individuals with an opportunity to reflect on their fitness levels and overall well-being, highlighting the importance of both physical and mental health. Commending the increased participation this year, he noted that the success of the event is particularly meaningful as it is organised “by the department and for the department,” without external involvement. He encouraged all departments to take pride in the tournament and participate in the right spirit, while wishing the participants success in the tightly scheduled two-day programme.
The programme was chaired by EAC Wokha, Rechalungle, with a welcome address delivered by ADC Wokha, Renbomo Ezung. A special presentation was given by the Youth Resource & Sports Department, followed by the oath administered by Sedevizo Pienyü (PIS), before the special guest officially declared the meet open.
Following the formalities, competitions across various disciplines—including tug of war, penalty shoot-out, chess, carrom, table tennis, and badminton—got underway, with enthusiastic participation and strong displays of teamwork from different departments. Adding to the spirit of the event, Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar and Superintendent of Police T. Relo Aye also took part in a friendly table tennis match.
