Nagaland health & family welfare (H&FW) department launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) services—Nagaland’s first End-to-End Digital Health Model Facility—at District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) here Saturday
Speaking at the launch, commissioner & secretary H&FW, Anoop Khinchi,IAS said the facility marks a “significant step forward in strengthening healthcare delivery and making it more accessible, efficient, and patient-centric.”
Khinchi, who launched the Scan and Share services, said the new End-to-End Model Facility would set a benchmark for modern infrastructure and digital innovation in Nagaland. He noted that the Scan and Share feature allows patients to instantly share their health records with doctors, enabling faster, safer and more coordinated treatment with reduced waiting time and paperwork.
Emphasising the importance of ABHA, the commissioner and secretary described it as “the key to a truly connected healthcare system,” allowing citizens secure access to their medical records anytime and helping doctors deliver timely, coordinated care.
Khinchi thanked healthcare workers, administrators and partners for their role in advancing digital transformation, saying the launch represented “trust, collaboration and the promise of healthier communities.” He urged the public to embrace digital health tools and help build a future-ready healthcare system.
The programme, chaired by DHD medical superintendent Dr. George Thira, opened with a prayer by the chaplain and a welcome address by e-Hospital nodal officer Dr. Toska Sumi.
In a media interaction, the medical team urged the public to actively participate in ABHA registration, calling it the cornerstone of Nagaland’s digital healthcare shift.
The officials said the state has achieved around 50% ABHA saturation among 15.7 lakh Aadhaar holders. They added that the 14-digit digital health ID can be generated through platforms like PMJAY, CMJAY and departmental portals such as RCH 2.0, NCB, MedShare, IBS and IHIP.
They also said the ABHA Personal Health Record (PHR) app allows individuals to securely store and manage their medical data, adding that assistance counters will be set up in district hospitals to help citizens register. Comparing the system to widely used digital payment apps, they encouraged the public to choose any preferred PHR application to link and access their health records.
They explained that the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, launched nationally in 2021 and implemented in Nagaland the following year, aims to create a secure, interoperable digital health ecosystem. Its core components include the ABHA digital identity, Healthcare Professional Registry, Health Facility Registry and the ABHA mobile app, all working together for seamless personal health information management.
DDH has been chosen as Nagaland’s first model facility for complete digital integration, where all patient services—from ABHA-linked digital records to interoperability through the Unified Health Interface—will be fully digitised.
Officials said the initiative strengthens patient privacy and gives individuals full control over their health information, while enabling instant ABHA creation, integrating schemes such as PM-JAY, and introducing QR-based systems for quicker registration and payments. They clarified that Dimapur’s launch marks only the first phase, with Tuensang set to follow next and other districts to roll out the system sequentially.
Stressing the importance of the PHR App, officials said it becomes vital for linking and accessing digital health records once an ABHA ID is created, placing an individual’s complete medical history at their fingertips. They urged citizens to participate in the Digital India movement and register for ABHA through the NextGen EOS system.
The newly launched Scan and Share service at DH Dimapur is expected to reduce waiting time and cut data-entry errors. Patients can scan the hospital’s QR code using any ABDM-enabled app, receive a digital token and proceed to the counter only for payment and collection of their OPD slip.
Khinchi clarifies
Meanwhile, in an exclusive to Nagaland Post, H&FW commissioner Anoop Khinchi clarified that the two-wheeler ambulance at District Hospital Kiphire was meant for transporting medicines to remote areas and not carrying people. He said this in response to reports on social media which called the new two-wheeler ambulance at District Hospital Kiphire “insulting” for residents. He explained the confusion arose due to miscommunication.
