District Level Coordination Meeting (DLCC) of Mon was held on November 28, at DC conference hall in Mon which was chaired by DC Wennyei Konyak.
For the first time a total of 6 villages were declared as tobacco free namely Changlangshu village,Bumei village,Chanhlangshu Changsa village, Chi Village, Chi Guhching village and Tugam village. Also, 26 schools from Naginimora,Leangha, Lampong Sheangha, Chi, Changlanshu etc were also declared as tobacco free .
Medezer Foundation Trust Office is the first office in Mon district to be declared as tobacco free and Manthenian Education Institute was also declared as tobacco free .
The DC, in his speech, encouraged the Village Council (VC) members to be a brand ambassadors for tobacco free village for villages to emulate them .He also told the villages and schools not to depend only on the administration and the district control team but to exercise their power and maintain tobacco free status in their own respective places . Dr Esther Chophy, District Nodal Officer ,NTCP also thanked the Village Council members for recognising the harmful effects of tobacco and banning the sale of tobacco within their villages and encouraged them to continue their good work for the welfare of all the village people .
She also acknowledged the contribution of all the school authorities and teachers for maintaining tobacco free environment which is very important for the healthy growth of all the school children.
A short speech was also given by Village Chairman of Chi and Chi Guhching village and head GB of Changlangshu village on the positive measures they took to prevent the sale of tobacco. The meeting was also attended by DEO Thinoneisie, SDPO Bendangwati Ao, Principal Wankhao college, Dr Tialila, Nyeaming, district consultant NTCP representatives from DPRO and school authorities etc.
