The Indian Army, in collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra, successfully concluded the Hornbill Motor Rally 2025 with a ceremonial flagging-in at Zakhama Military Station in Kohima district. The rally, flagged off on November 25, covered a distance of 1,150 km over seven days.
The expedition, comprising 14 vehicles from the Army and Mahindra & Mahindra, traversed through Zakhama, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Kiphire, Jessami and Leimakhong before culminating at Zakhama. This year’s theme, “Harmonising Adventure with Peace – Celebrating the Spirit of Hornbill,” highlighted values of unity, courage and camaraderie central to the Hornbill Festival, while showcasing the scenic landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage of the Northeast.
During the journey, participants engaged in a series of significant activities, including a visit to the memorial of Capt N. Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), interaction with 105-year-old Phantom Warrior Hav Mering Ao, SC (Retd), and meetings with Jessami veterans. The rally also witnessed the felicitation of Veer Nari, Smt Adani Komoni, wife of Nk (Late) Saheni Lohrii, SM. Other highlights included inspiring students of Lao Radiant School, paying homage at Subash Hut in honour of the INA, and exploring heritage villages in Mokokchung and Jessami.
The initiative seamlessly blended adventure with patriotism and cultural immersion, strengthening bonds with local communities, promoting eco-tourism, and motivating youth towards discipline, patriotism, and nation-building.
The rally concluded with a grand Flag-In ceremony at Zakhama, coinciding with the Hornbill Festival.
