Nagaland: 24 referees undergo AIFF upgradation exam in Dimapur

Twenty-four referees, including two women from across the state, successfully underwent the All India Football Federation (AIFF) referee upgradation examination (Level 6 and 7) held at the Youth Hostel, Dimapur, from November 30 to December 1.
The examination was conducted under the aegis of the Nagaland Football Association and hosted by Dimapur District Football Referee Association (DDFRA). The referees were trained and tested in both theory and practical sessions under the guidance of Joychandra Singh, referee instructor and Zonal Referee Development Officer, AIFF, and Medozevyi Punyii, referee instructor (C category), AIFF.
On the concluding day, Joychandra Singh emphasized the importance of discipline among referees, reminding the trainees that their performance and commitment would determine their progress. He noted that if Nagaland could produce quality referees, the overall standard of football in the state would improve. He further urged participants to set aside ego and focus on professionalism. In his remarks, Medozevyi Punyii encouraged referees to maintain physical fitness and remain updated with the evolving laws of the game. He stressed that continuous learning and dedication were essential for officiating at higher levels.
Gracing the closing programme, District Sports Officer of Longleng, Kenongoto Thokhwe, described the event as timely and significant. He observed that although sports in Nagaland began relatively late, they were now moving in the right direction.
He highlighted the need for professional and technical expertise to further strengthen the state’s sporting infrastructure and development. Referees also shared their experiences during the training, reflecting on the knowledge gained and challenges faced. The closing programme was chaired by DDFRA vice president Vikato Assumi, with the vote of thanks delivered by Vihokhe K and benediction offered by Olando Yimkhuing.
