Nagaland: Supongmeren raises IISER delay in Lok Sabha

DIMAPUR, DEC 4 (NPN)

Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir on Thursday raised in Parliament the long-pending issue of establishing an Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Nagaland.
Raising the matter during zero hour, the MP reminded that IISER for Nagaland was announced in the 2015-16 Union Budget by the late Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. He said about 200 acres had been acquired near Dimapur Airport with air and rail connectivity, but no progress had been made since.
Expressing disappointment over the prolonged delay, Supongmeren urged the Centre to reconsider and prioritise the project, citing Nagaland’s special provisions under Article 371A and the need for balanced national development.
He said the IISER would play a crucial role in strengthening scientific education, generating skilled human resources and contributing to the overall development of Nagaland and the Northeast.
