Renowned Naga drummer Temsünungsang Kichu, popularly known as Temsu Kichu, passed away on Thursday morning after a prolonged illness. Tributes poured in from the music fraternity, recalling him as one of Nagaland’s most acclaimed and influential drummers. Kichu, whose musical journey began early, rose to prominence through bands such as Graffiti, Purple Fusion, Rattle & Hum Band, Gear Men Dudes and several others that shaped contemporary Naga music. He was also the drummer of Diatribe, winners of the 2008 Hornbill National Rock Competition.

A respected figure in both rock and fusion genres, Kichu was admired for his versatility, technical skill and humility. Musicians remembered him as a key contributor to Purple Fusion’s success, including its 2015 national recognition. His legacy, they said, will remain an integral part of Nagaland’s modern music history.
