The 3rd edition of the Zisaji Presidency College (ZPC) Open Volleyball Championship 2025 commenced on Thursday at the college premises, Kiphire, with SDO (Civil) Kiphire, Rozy Sangtam, gracing the inaugural event as guest of honour. The closing ceremony is scheduled for December 5, with Principal of ZPC, Dr. Phyobenthung as the special guest.
A total of 10 teams from across Kiphire district are participating in the championship. The opening match featured defending champions Spark Boys Amahator against United Fable Club.
Addressing the gathering, Sangtam congratulated the college principal and his team for organizing the championship as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s community engagement programme. She encouraged youths to seize the opportunity to enhance their skills and talents, becoming better individuals, leaders and citizens. She also highlighted the issue of substance abuse among the youth of Kiphire, urging players to act as torchbearers against the menace.
Quoting tennis legend Billie Jean King, Sangtam emphasized the life lessons sport imparts, urging participants to play with respect and integrity. Stressing on the championship’s motto “Excel to Excellence” and the college’s motto “Dedication for Advancement”, she called upon students and youths to make productive use of their time for personal growth and contribution to society.
The programme was chaired by assistant professor, Shumong Tikhir, with invocation by assistant professor Martha Tsumon. Dr. Phyobenthung delivered the welcome address, followed by a special appearance from Rebecca V, winner of ZPC Got Talent 2025. Assistant professor, Rhi Rhi administered the oath-taking, while vice principal, Dr. Purna Chandra Mishra, proposed the vote of thanks.
The event was attended by representatives from various unions and district departments, reflecting strong community support. Organizers noted that the championship aims to inspire youth to uncover their talents while fostering sportsmanship and collective commitment to community development.
