Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election, H. Tovihoto Ayemi, on Sunday said the Dimapur Night Carnival continues to play an important role in fostering unity, community bonding and opportunities for young talents, as the 13th edition of the event entered its second day.
Gracing the second day of the carnival as special guest, Ayemi said he was happy to be part of the celebration and recalled that he had also inaugurated the first edition years ago. He noted that this year’s event carried added significance as it coincides with the Hornbill Festival extension being held across various districts.
Tovihoto commended the organisers for consistently improving the carnival, calling it one of the rare platforms that brings together people from all walks of life.
He said the event has over the years benefitted many youths by enabling them to showcase their skills and entrepreneurial abilities.
Highlighting the festive season, Tovihoto said Christmas naturally draws people together- professionals, students and families- and that the night carnival enhances this atmosphere of joy and togetherness.
He encouraged organisers to maintain an environment where everyone feels welcome, noting that Dimapur, as a cosmopolitan city, thrives on unity and shared celebration. He expressed hope that visitors would leave with warm memories of the city.
The 13th Dimapur Night Carnival, held as part of the 26th Hornbill Festival extension, stretches from Clock Tower to Police Point (Holy Cross School).
The evening’s programme was chaired by Neingutoulie Kenguruse, convenor of Dimapur Night Carnival 2025 and DMC councillor. Invocation was led by pastor Amos Tungoe of Unity Baptist Church.
Akashe Zhimomi, convenor of the carnival and president of DCCI, delivered the welcome address, followed by a special song from Athrongba Sangtam. The programme concluded with the congregational hymn “Silent Night”, after which the special guest inspected the stalls.
