Nagaland: Colourful Tribal Cultural Mosaic showcased at NSF Solidarity Park

A vibrant Tribal Cultural Mosaic was showcased at NSF Solidarity Park on December 6, as part of the 26th edition of the Hornbill Festival, organised by the Department of Tribal Affairs in celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh. According to a DIPR report, the event brought together 15 tribes from across Nagaland, highlighting the diversity and cultural wealth of the Naga people.
The programme was graced by minister for Forest, Environment, Climate Change & Village Guards, C.L. John, who attended as the special guest. In his address, he acknowledged Nagaland’s rich tapestry of languages, traditions, and rituals but noted that unity remains an ongoing challenge. He emphasised that societal divisions and “isms” continue to hinder peace, adding that only by overcoming these barriers can true harmony be achieved. John also praised Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio’s vision, crediting the Hornbill Festival for placing Naga identity and culture on the global map.
Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Elections and chief host of the event, H. Tovihoto Ayemi, thanked the Department of Tribal Affairs for creating a platform to showcase Naga art and culture. He highlighted the festival’s role in fostering unity and guiding Naga society toward harmony and progress, while appreciating the tribal troupes who travelled from various districts to share their talents.
The event began with a welcome address by secretary, Department of Tribal Affairs, Angelina Tajen,. Pastor Bendangtemsu of New Capital Baptist Church offered an invocation prayer, followed by the National Anthem led by Along Jamir, who later performed a folk-fusion piece with Ajung. The vote of thanks was delivered by joint secretary, Department of Tribal Affairs, TL. Kiusumong, and the programme was compered by Medolenuo Ambrocia Loucù.
The Tribal Cultural Mosaic concluded with colourful performances that celebrated unity through the vibrant traditions of Nagaland’s tribes.
