Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union proposes North East Contractors Forum; invites Gadkari for Golden Jubilee

A four-member delegation of the Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union (NCSU), led by its president Pele Khezhie, called on Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in Nagpur recently and expressed appreciation for the Centre’s continued support towards strengthening Nagaland’s road infrastructure under the Act East vision.
According to NCSU, the delegation acknowledged the unprecedented progress made in the past decade, noting that Nagaland now has around 1,670 km of operational National Highways, while 33-34 NHs have been sanctioned across the State. It also said 25 NHIDCL projects, covering roughly 469 km and involving an investment of about Rs. 7,711 crore, were currently under execution. These developments, the union stated, have significantly improved connectivity, logistics and economic access across urban and rural districts.
During the meeting, NCSU submitted a proposal for creation of a North East Contractors Forum (NECF) to serve as a collaborative platform for contractors from all North Eastern states. The proposed Forum would function as a collective body for grievance redressal, fair representation, capacity building, skill enhancement and adoption of quality standards, while strengthening coordination with Central and State authorities. NCSU said the initiative would also complement the Act East Policy by promoting transparent and community-oriented development across the region. It stated that Gadkari welcomed the proposal, assured full cooperation and expressed willingness to inaugurate the Forum.
NCSU also extended an invitation to Gadkari to grace its Golden Jubilee celebration in 2025, describing the proposed launch of the North East Contractors Forum during the Jubilee as a historic milestone that would enhance regional unity and collaboration.
The union appealed to contractors’ associations across the North East to support the initiative and work collectively to strengthen project delivery and regional capacity. It added that a Bengaluru-based consultancy team was assisting with data compilation and conceptual planning for the Forum.
