The Kohima Night Carnival, held alongside the 26th edition of the Hornbill Festival, continued to draw crowds as the state capital transformed into a lively centre of food, culture and celebration. Organised annually by the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), this year’s edition features a dedicated food-fold with hundreds of stalls, which has provided an important platform for Self Help Groups (SHGs), start-ups and local entrepreneurs to exhibit and promote their products.
The carnival has evolved into a melting pot for domestic tourists, international visitors and local residents who turn up each evening to experience Kohima’s festive atmosphere after dark. The initiative, the organisers stated, is aimed at promoting local talent, encouraging entrepreneurship and strengthening the city’s night-time economy, thereby enriching the Hornbill Festival experience.
Meanwhile KCCI informed that tomorrow’s edition (December 9-Tuesday) of the Night Carnival will feature a grand Carnival Parade.
To facilitate the event and allow visitors more time to enjoy the festivities, the organisers announced that carnival timings will be extended until 11:00 PM for the day. They clarified that regular timings—from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM—will continue on all other days.
Organisers encouraged the public and visiting tourists to participate in the parade and make use of the extended hours, adding that necessary safety measures and traffic arrangements will be enforced to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
