Nagaland: Dimapur Night Carnival sees surge in weekend visitors

Crowds continued to pour in on Tuesday as the 13th Dimapur Night Carnival entered its fourth day, with Naga People’s Front (NPF) senior vice-president Charlie Sekhose gracing the event as the special guest.
Extending festive greetings on behalf of the party and the chief minister, Sekhose said he was pleased to be part of a celebration that reflected strong community spirit and the warmth of the approaching Christmas season. He conveyed greetings from the women and minority affairs division and other allied organizations and also lauded Dimapur Municipal Council, district authorities and organisers for elevating the carnival. He also commended the administration, police and security personnel for ensuring a peaceful event. Sekhose wished the public a joyful pre-Christmas season and invoked God’s blessings.
Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, was also present at the programme. The evening opened with an invocation by Life Square Church, Chümoukedima pastor Kenei Kiso, followed by a welcome address from DMC councillor Mahesh Agarwal. Prem and Nikato presented a special song, while the formal segment included the raffle draw announcement, stall inspections and the evening’s main festivities.
Meanwhile, speaking to Nagaland Post, the DC described the carnival as a vibrant and inclusive event that brings together people of all ages while supporting local entrepreneurs and young performers.
Responding to concerns about venue-related traffic issues, he noted that last year’s shift to the Dimapur District Sports Complex reduced turnout due to its remote location. The current venue, he said, offers easier access for passers-by and shoppers. “The event lasts just a short time each evening for a few days-some compromise is expected,” he added.
Addressing complaints of increased auto-rickshaw fares during the festive season, Dr Chang said rates were revised last year in consultation with transport authorities and the drivers’ union, and assured the administration would review them again if necessary.
