A Botanical Park was inaugurated at Nagaland University headquarters, Lumami, by Prof. J.K. Patnaik, vice-chancellor of Nagaland University, on December 10.
The inauguration programme was attended by Dr. Abemo, Registrar, Dr. Albert Khizho, Finance Officer, Er. Yanrenthung Ezung, CoE, along with HoDs, faculty members, officers, staff and students.
Initiated this year, the park aims to house rare and endemic plants of Nagaland as well as those of Northeast India. Presently, species of rare banana, zinzibers and medicinal plants have been planted, accompanied by flowering species to enhance the beauty of the site.
The park is envisioned to serve multiple purposes—providing a space for employees, research scholars and postgraduate students to unwind, offering vast open areas for walking, and creating opportunities for study, preservation and appreciation of indigenous plant species. It is also expected to play a vital role in conserving endangered and threatened species of the State.
The Botanical Park has been curated and supervised by Dr. Neizo Puro, department of Botany, Nagaland University.
