State government has officially notified 19 local languages and dialects spoken in the state for the purpose of engaging Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) under the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communication, Government of India. In a notification, the home department stated that the identification of local languages was in line with the requirements of the department of posts for certifying language proficiency among GDS applicants.
The languages identified include Angami, Ao, Chang, Chakhesang, Konyak, Khiamniungan, Lotha, Phom, Pochury, Rengma, Sumi, Sangtam, Tikhir, Yimkhiung, Zeliang, Garo, Mikir, Kuki and Kachari.
For the purpose of certification of proficiency in those languages and dialects, the deputy commissioners (DC) of the respective districts have been notified as the certifying authorities within their jurisdictions.
The notification will come into force from the date of its publication in the Nagaland Gazette.
