Khutsami Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) on Tuesday celebrated its Golden Jubilee at the Local Ground, Khutsami village, under Phek district, with Nagaland’s advisor for CAWD and taxes, Kudecho Khamo, as the special guest.
Addressing the event, Khamo said sports is a profession where winning one medal does not only bring recognition but also fame, wealth and employment opportunities, and exhorted athletes to take sports seriously. He stressed the importance of collective efforts in raising sportspersons.
He highlighted that the Nagaland government, along with the rest of the nation, is investing significantly in sports infrastructures and sportsperson development to push athletes to national and international levels under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
Pointing out Olympians from the state—footballer Dr T Ao, archer Chekrovolu Swuro and Paralympian Hotoka Hotozhe Sema—he said they had competed at the Olympic level and are an inspiration to many, adding that youth should take up sports as it is already one of the highest-earning professions.
Acknowledging infrastructure and developmental gaps in the Chozuba Assembly Constituency, he assured that he is committed to the all-round development of the constituency, which requires unity and cooperation from the public. He said the people need to be in tandem with the government for development.
Reiterating that the Village Fair held at Phusachodu Village had also launched the initiatives—One Family, One Project; One Family, One Entrepreneur; and One Family, Prayer Time—he said that in modern times, the world belongs to business people. He added that these initiatives encourage people to eat the fruits and not the seeds, so that they can grow and prosper.
He asserted that unity is the need of the hour in Naga society, while lamenting factionalism and divisions among churches and society, which he said is concerning. Maintaining that, in the backdrop of such a prevailing situation, the opposition-less government formed under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s leadership and the recent merger of the majority NDPP legislators with the NPF party have shown the way, he called for efforts to end all divisions for unity and progress in Naga society.
Khamo commended Khutsami Village for its honesty and sincerity, calling it a trendsetter and a blessing for the community, and urged the village to continue upholding these values to nurture an upright generation.
Guest of honour Nezosa Tetseo, President, Phek District Sports Association (PDSA), released the souvenir. In his speech, he said a jubilee is a time to retrospect and introspect, urging athletes to be more dedicated to sports and any vocation they choose to pursue.
Kudecho Khamo unveiled the jubilee monolith, while the dedicatory prayer was offered by Cekhwusayi Swuro, pastor, Khutsami Baptist Church, and led by Thupunu Swuro, Finance Secretary, KVYO.
