Assam (Golaghat) retained the 3rd Assam-Nagaland Friendship Trophy by defeating Nagaland by 12 runs in a spirited contest that celebrated sporting ties between the two states.
The match, played under the banner of friendship and unity, was graced by Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA 38 AC, who paid a surprise courtesy visit and interacted with the guest players. He lauded the organisers for reviving the age-old bond between the Ahom and Naga communities through cricket as a medium of fellowship.
Deputy Commissioner of Wokha and Superintendent of Police, Wokha DEF, later joined the post-match session, assuring players and organisers that the historic event would be taken to the government level with efforts to make it an annual fixture.
The evening’s bara khana was hosted by Project Director DRDA Wokha, Thungbemo Patton and CVO Wokha, Dr. K.N. Zubemo, adding to the spirit of hospitality and celebration.
Hon. Secretary of the Nagaland Cricket Association, Hyunilo Khing, graced the opening ceremony of the 30th edition of the Winter Cricket Challenge. He also inaugurated the first-ever Mini Indoor Cricket Practice Pitch at Wokha local ground, constructed under the BCCI Cricket Development Project.
