The 67th session of the Yachem Students’ Union (YSU) cum 4th general conference 2025 commenced on December 17 at Yachem Village, Longleng, under the theme “Bridging the Gap (Shingkung Shenteipü)”.
A press release by YSU’s Media cell stated that the conference began with an open marathon race themed ‘Own Your Story’, flagged off by Yachem Anüti Lunglak, president, Y. Sangla Phom. The event highlighted youth empowerment and self-responsibility.
The conference featured Chairman and team leader, Lemsachenlok, Longleng, Y. Nuklu Phom, PhD, as the speaker, while deputy commissioner, Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, attended as the guest speaker.
In his speech, W. Manpai Phom lauded the organisers and described the theme ‘Bridging the Gap’ as highly relevant today. He urged students to view gaps as opportunities for development and progress, stressing discipline, academic excellence, and constructive engagement as tools to bridge them.
He commended Yachem Village as a model within the Phom community, particularly for its achievements in government schools. Emphasising the importance of strong foundations at the primary and middle school levels, he appreciated the collective efforts of the village council, elders, students’ organisations, women bodies, church leaders, teachers, and parents in strengthening the education system. He encouraged students to excel in academics and sports to bring laurels to the community and district.
He cautioned against excessive use of social media and digital gadgets, urging youths to engage in purposeful activities. He called for inclusive development through cooperation among village institutions, encouraged the formation of sports associations and NGOs, and urged exploration of entrepreneurship. He envisioned Longleng district as an emerging economic hub, stressing the need for effective implementation of government schemes.
The programme was chaired by YSU, women affairs secretary, C. Jorly Phom, invocation by NBA, Pastor, Rev. T. I. Lakba. The opening performance was presented by Rising Club, a song was rendered by Büdenlongli N. Phom, while a folk song was presented by the Yaongyimchen Students’ Union and exhortation was delivered by Council Chairman, Yachem, Y. Isakumba.
The welcome address was delivered by convenor, organising committee, L. Imtinükshi Phom. The programme also witnessed the oath-taking ceremony, followed by the formal declaration and kick-off of Games and Sports by the special guest.
