Protests erupted across several Indian cities, including outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, condemning the mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu worker in Bangladesh.
In the national capital, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists attempted to march towards the High Commission, clashing with security personnel. Protesters breached police barricades but were halted by multi-layered security involving police and paramilitary forces. Security around the mission was subsequently tightened.
Demonstrators raised slogans such as “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” “Yunus Sarkar Hosh Mein Aao,” and “Hindu Hatiya Band Karo,” according to ANI. Similar protests were held near Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Metro Station by VHP, Bajrang Dal and Sarbo Bharatiya Hindi Bangali Sangathan members, highlighting concerns over the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh. Protests were also reported from Bhopal. Amid the unrest, Bangladesh suspended visa services at its High Commission in New Delhi and missions in Tripura and Siliguri, citing unavoidable circumstances. Earlier, India had temporarily halted visa operations at its Chittagong mission following protest attempts.
India has conveyed strong concern to Dhaka over the lynching and threats to minorities and diplomatic missions, urging justice for Dipu Chandra Das. Bangladesh’s interim government has indicated it may reassess its diplomatic presence if tensions escalate further.
