Three-day 57th general conference of the Mimi Students’ Union (MSU) commenced on December 27, at Mimi village with its inaugural programme held under the theme, “Educate, Empower, Evolve.” The conference marks the beginning of a new tenure focused on student empowerment, cultural preservation, and community development.
The programme was graced by economics and statistics officer, Directorate of School Education, Tsupithong Yimchunger, as the special guest.
In his address, Yimchunger shared his experience of visiting over 800 villages across the state and expressed concern over rising mortality rates, demographic imbalance, and the closure of government schools, referring to developments since PCP 1974. Emphasising cultural preservation, he noted that responsible population growth is vital for safeguarding traditions. He also highlighted the importance of inter-community collaboration, skill development in the modern era, and cautioned students against mobile phone addiction, urging them to use technology responsibly and productively. He also congratulated the HSLC and HSSLC achievers from Mimi village, with special mention of Resomong, HSLC topper from Mimi, and Kamjila, HSSLC achiever. As a mark of respect and encouragement, gifts were also presented to the eldest male and female members of the village.
The inaugural programme was attended by village council chairman (VCC), R. AchimpongMimi, Gaon Burahs (GBs), village council members, chairman of the Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC), pastor of Mimi Baptist Church, students, elders, and prominent leaders from Mimi village and neighbouring areas.
The programme began with a welcome address by president, MSU, Yakso M, Makezho, Executive Chairman Yimkhiung Tribal Council and Throngmuli, President, Mimi Circle Joint Council, also spoke at the event. The programme was compered by Mary, Cultural Secretary, MSU, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Phosangwo.
