Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, Angami Public Organisation (APO) and others have expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Kekhriengulie Linyü, former president of Angami Public Organisation and a retired senior bureaucrat, who passed away after a prolonged illness on January 3, 2026, at Eden Medical Centre, Dimapur.
CM: In a condolence message addressed to Mrs. Viholi Linyü, chief minister Neiphiu Rio said he was deeply saddened by the passing of Linyü, whom he personally knew as a calm, honest and selfless gentleman. Rio recalled that Linyü served the State government in various capacities with dedication and sincerity before retiring as additional director and head of department, Land Records and Survey.
After retirement, he continued his service to society as president of APO, where he took up important issues concerning the Nagas and stood firmly for justice and truth. Describing his death as a great loss, particularly to the Angami community, Rio said the void left behind would be difficult to fill and prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.
APO: Angami Public Organisation also expressed profound grief over the demise of its former president, who served from 2008 to 2011.
APO vice president Vikehielie Victor said late Linyü was a leader who carried responsibility with grace, wisdom and humility, and whose dedication to the welfare of the people was genuine and unwavering. He said Linyü played a vital role in strengthening unity, upholding traditions and guiding the community through times of challenge. The organisation said his inclusive leadership, ability to listen and commitment to justice and harmony would continue to inspire future generations.
APO said what set late Linyü apart was his ability to listen to elders, youth and differing voices, always seeking consensus. It said his life was a reminder that true leadership lay in service and moral courage.
While mourning his demise, the organisation said it also honoured the legacy he left behind, adding that his contributions to the Angami people and society at large would continue to inspire many. APO said it was now the collective responsibility of leaders and the community to carry forward the values he upheld and the vision he worked to build.
Extending condolences to the bereaved family, APO said they were not alone in their grief and that the prayers and sympathies of the people were with them. The organisation prayed that the Almighty grant eternal rest to the departed soul and strength and comfort to the family.
CPO: Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) said it was deeply saddened by the passing of late Linyü, describing him as a man of exceptional character and wisdom who dedicated his life to the service of the people.
CPO president Zhato Kimho and general secretary Nivizolie Meyase said that late Linyü represented that Chakhroma community with great dignity and served as APO president from 2008-11 and as additional director and HoD of Land Records and Survey (1995-2003).
CPO said his passing was an irreparable loss to the community and the organisations he faithfully served. It said he would be remembered for his exemplary leadership and the strong foundations he laid during his years of service, which would continue to guide the community.
Conveying deepest condolences to the bereaved family, CPO prayed that the Almighty grant them comfort and strength in this time of sorrow and that the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
KUD: KUDAWHI Union Dimapur (KUD) also mourned the demise of its former president, former president of APO and retired additional director & HoD of Land Records and Survey, Kekhriengulie Linyü.
KUD president K. James Vizo said late Linyü was a dedicated, upright and principled bureaucrat who served the government and the people with integrity and distinction. It said his commitment to ethical administration, discipline and selfless service earned him deep respect across communities.
The union acknowledged his invaluable contributions to KUDAWHI Union, the Angami community and the state of Nagaland, and said he rendered exemplary service as a community leader, providing wise guidance and leaving behind a legacy that would continue to inspire future generations.
KUD extended sincere condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty grant them strength, comfort and peace and also prayed that the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
Paiwang: Health & Family Welfare minister P. Paiwang Konyak said the passing of Linyü was a great loss not only to the family but to all who knew him.
Remembering him for his warmth, humility and quiet strength, the minister conveyed his sincere condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace.
