Nagaland: Fire incidents mark Dimapur’s New Year

Since the start of the New Year, Dimapur has already recorded several fire incidents across different localities, keeping fire and emergency services on constant alert. A series of fire incidents on January 1, 2 and 3 had occurred in various parts of Dimapur.
DAROGAPATHAR: A fire call was received at Darogapathar on January 1, 2026, at 12:30 am, reducing a bamboo kacha houses to ashes and affecting four families.
According to fire officials, two Water Tender Pumps (WTPs) from Central Fire Station and one WTP from Chümoukedima Fire Station were pressed into action.
The fire consumed one plot of land consisting of four bamboo kacha houses, belonging to three Naga families and one non-Naga family. One person sustained minor injuries during the incident.
The fire started from fire crackers used during New Year celebrations.
According to sources, the worth of property damaged is more than RS 10 lakhs
RAILWAY COLONY: A fire broke out in a kacha house at Netaji Colony, Railway Colony area, on January 2 at around 6:28 pm, following which three fire tenders from the Central Fire Station, Dimapur, were pressed into service.
Details regarding the affected family and extent of damage were not available at the time of filing this report.
PURANA BAZAAR: A fire broke out at Mount View Colony under Purana Bazaar area on January 3 at around 10:34 am, affecting a kacha house and leaving one family impacted.
According to fire officials, two fire tenders from the Central Fire Station, Dimapur were rushed to the spot and managed to control the blaze. No casualties were reported, though the house owner sustained minor injuries during the incident.
The cause of the fire has been attributed to fire from drying meat. The extent of property damage is yet to be assessed.
