The 40th general conference of the Zunheboto Range Students’ Union (ZRSU) was held on January 7 at Yezami Village. The session was graced by Sumi Kukami Hoho, president Akukau Hetoho S Zhimomi, as the chief speaker.
Addressing the gathering, Er Kakiye Khuju Jakha, representing the Zunheboto Tokujo Kuqhakulu Dimapur Union, highlighted the increasing youth population in India aged 20 to 30 and emphasized the government’s focus on youth development. He urged students to identify their goals early and pursue suitable careers while stressing the importance of sustainability and the practical application of values, including biblical teachings.
Representatives from the Zunheboto Tokujo Kuqhakulu Kohima Union encouraged students to explore agricultural practices and advised responsible use of social media to positively impact society rather than create divisions. During the programme, Kivikhu Achumi of Hekiye Village announced a donation of one month’s pension to the first three toppers of the HSLC examinations, challenging students to excel academically.
General secretary, Zunheboto Tokujo Kuqhakulu Kohima Union shared plans for upcoming coaching and seminar programmes and encouraged students to participate actively.
In his address, president, Sumi Kukami Hoho, Hetoho S. Zhimomi underscored the importance of parental support alongside students’ efforts and urged students to give thanks to God irrespective of success or failure. Highlighting gender equality, he noted women’s growing achievements and stressed reviving equal educational opportunities. He further advised students to start preparing from high school, noting opportunities through industrial and skill development departments for all, including school dropouts. He cited skills like electrical work and content creation as having significant local potential. He concluded by urging students to prioritize God, strive for excellence, and seek divine blessings.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Zato H., with an invocation prayer by pastor, Newland Baptist Church, Yezami Hetoka Z. Sumi. A special song was presented by the Kawoto Students’ Union, while greetings came from representatives of Zunheboto Tokujo Kuqhakulu from Dimapur/Chümoukedima and Kohima.
The event also featured a drama by the Lizu Old Students’ Union and a felicitation ceremony honoring students for academic and other achievements. Life testimonies were shared by Livino K. Awomi (NPS CESE 2024 GT Science), Abotoli K. Sumi (NSSB CETSE 2025, Soil Conservation Assistant), and Akivili N. Chishi (Rank holder in BA History, Nagaland University 2024). The programme concluded with a benediction by Inokali APW, Sukhalu Village.
