Sumi Aphüyemi Kiphimi Kuqhakülu (SAKK) commemorate its 75th Platinum Jubilee alongside its 49th Biennial Session at Pughoboto Town from January 7 to 10, under the theme “Honouring the Odyssey.”
A major highlight of the celebrations took place on January 8, when minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, K.G. Kenye, graced the occasion as chief guest and unveiled a Monolith commemorating SAKK’s 75th Platinum Jubilee, symbolising the organisation’s enduring legacy and collective journey.
In his address, Kenye reflected on the historic struggles of the Naga people and lauded the significant contributions of the Aphüyemi in the Naga movement. He highlighted their role in promoting inter-tribal harmony in and around the Pughoboto Sub-Division, strengthening unity and peaceful coexistence.
Expressing concern over the younger generation’s growing disconnect from historical roots, Kenye urged students and youth to preserve their heritage and uphold the values and legacy passed down by their forefathers. He emphasized that the sacrifices of previous generations must not be forgotten and called for renewed purpose and unity in moving forward.
Kenye was accompanied by Dr. Sukhato A. Sema, MLA, Dr. Neisatuo Mero, MLA and Jwenga Seb, MLA. The Monolith was dedicated through a prayer led by Rev. Dr. Kiyeto G. Sema, Senior Pastor of Sumi Aphüyemi Baptist Church Kohima (SABCK).
