Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF), representing urban colonies and citizens of Dimapur, has strongly demanded the immediate vacation of premises on acquired airport land currently occupied by the Assam Rifles Training Centre (ARTC).
In a press release, DUCCF information publicity secretary Kevipietsu Savino highlighted official records showing the Dimapur Airfield, which was handed over by the Indian Air Force to the National Airports Authority (now Airports Authority of India) in 1987, effective September 1, 1987, along with all fixed assets and external services on an “as-is-where-is” basis.
DUCCF stated that ARTC’s continued occupation of the land was untenable, unjustified, and against public interest.
The federation also said it impeded critical airport expansion, infrastructure development, and public utility projects essential for Dimapur and Nagaland’s growth and safety.
DUCCF also noted that ARTC has not fully vacated 18.9 acres earmarked for the first phase of Dimapur Airport expansion, despite ample time, notices, and repeated examinations by competent authorities.
DUCCF stressed that the airport expansion was a project of immense public importance for economic growth, connectivity, and safety.
It said that further delay only harmed the public and undermined a nationally significant infrastructure project.
Therefore, the federation urged ARTC to immediately and fully vacate the land in the larger public interest. DUCCF also appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to issue firm directions for enforcement.
DUCCF also called upon the state government and responsible authorities to uphold official records and prevent misuse or unlawful retention of public land meant for strategic purposes.
Reiterating that Dimapur Airport was Nagaland’s gateway, DUCCF said its timely expansion was non-negotiable for progress and future growth.
The federation affirmed solidarity with the Airports Authority of India and citizens of Dimapur in demanding swift and decisive action from all authorities.
It expressed hope that the MHA would resolve the long-pending issue promptly and responsibly.
