Nagaland: NPP unit flays attack on Naga taxi driver

DIMAPUR, JAN 10 (NPN)

National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland state unit Saturday strongly condemned what it described as “barbaric and inhuman attack” on a Naga taxi driver with a dao on the Jorhat bypass highway on January 8, 2026.
NPP state unit through its media & IPR cell also described the assault as “cowardly and premeditated”, adding that it was “deeply disturbing and wholly unacceptable” in a civilized society.
Taking note of identity of the accused who was in police custody, the party lauded the prompt action by law enforcement agencies.
NPP state unit has appealed to the Assam government to ensure fair, speedy, and exemplary justice through transparent legal prosecution.
The party cautioned that any delay or leniency would embolden further violence and erode public confidence in the rule of law.
NPP state unit also expressed serious concern over recurring insecurity, harassment, and hostile experiences faced by Naga citizens travelling through Assam.
Highlighting the vulnerability of innocent travellers, the party stressed the need for durable solutions to ensure their safety, dignity, and freedom of movement.
In this regard, NPP state unit has urged the government of Nagaland to expedite the Foothills Road Project on a war footing, treating it as a critical matter of public safety and strategic importance.
The party maintained that completion of project would provide a safer alternative route within Nagaland, reduce dependence on external corridors, and enhance security, connectivity, and economic activity.
Meanwhile, NPP unit affirmed solidarity with the victim and his family during this painful time and reaffirmed its commitment to stand with them until justice was delivered and accountability ensured.
