Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed deep concern over the “unfortunate gunfighting” between two Naga armed groups reportedly on January 9 morning in Naga areas of Myanmar, resulting in deaths and injuries to some Naga boys.
NPF through its press bureau stated that the reported fighting amongst the Naga brothers was “absolutely discouraging” at a time when Nagas entered the New Year 2026 with full of hope and expectations.
The party stated that gunfight between Naga groups sent a wrong message and undermined collective efforts towards peace and unity. Further, NPF also expressed concern that such fratricidal violence could vitiate the environment of the forthcoming Naga Yoya New Year celebration at Layshi Town, Naga Self-Administered Zone, scheduled on January 15.
The Naga Yoya New Year festival, an annual event, is being hosted by Layshi Town. NPF expressed apprehension that continued fighting could disrupt the festivities.
Therefore, NPF has urged all Naga political groups to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue. “Fighting within the family won’t yield positive results but cause further damage. Peace, unity, and reconciliation are essential. Fighting must be stopped,” NPF stated.
Meanwhile, the party has reaffirmed its commitment to a permanent, honourable, and inclusive solution to the Naga political issue. It also extended condolences to the victims’ families and wished speedy recovery to those injured.
NPF called upon all Naga groups to foster mutual respect and work towards serving Naga people.
