Nagaland: Tourism dept, NTA hold awareness training

DIMAPUR

Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA), organised a tourism awareness training on tour operation and tour guiding on January 10, 2026, at Maova Christian Church Campus, Maova Village.
The programme was conducted in alignment with the upcoming Mimkut Mini Hornbill Tribal Festival, scheduled to be held on January 16–17, 2026, at Maova Village.
Delivering the keynote address, Keholeno Kennao, Senior Tourist Officer, Dimapur, emphasized the importance of community-based tourism and the promotion of sustainable tourism in Nagaland. She encouraged local youths to view tourism as a viable profession, recognise the tourism potential of their village, and actively participate in community-driven initiatives in collaboration with the department and NTA through various skill development programmes.
A special highlight of the programme was the Mimkut Festival briefing by L. Singsit, president of Kuki Inpi, who elaborated on the cultural significance and tourism potential of the festival, stressing the need to preserve indigenous traditions while promoting them responsibly.
The technical sessions included: Session I: Tour Guiding Ethics and Tour Guiding as a Profession by Veshehi Kezo, general secretary of NTA, who spoke on professional conduct, storytelling skills, visitor management, and ethical responsibilities of tour guides.
Session II: Tour Operation and Homestay by Vimeto Vakha, president of NTA, who focused on tour packaging, homestay management, service quality, and income generation at the grassroots level.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Khonak Konyak, Senior Head Assistant, Department of Tourism, with invocation by Lunmang Lunkim, Head Deacon of Maova Christian Church. Sutminlal, Village Council chairman of Maova Village, delivered the welcome address.
The programme concluded with an interactive session.
