The Nagaland Pencak Silat Team has achieved a historic milestone by securing the 2nd runner-up position in the discipline of Pencak Silat at the 2nd edition of the Khelo India Beach Games 2026, held from January 5 to 11 in Ghoghla Beach, Diu.
Nagaland athletes brought home a total of three medals in the Combat Match category (Tanding), comprising two gold and one silver. The medal winners include: Kitenlo K. Thono – Gold Medal; Nyia K. Thono – Gold Medal; Hatneinem Khongsai – Silver Medal.
The Nagaland Pencak Silat Association expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Director of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, Kethosituo Sekhose, along with his department officials, as well as Chef de Mission Jakpolong Alinger and Liaison Officer Lokivi Assumi, for their consistent support and guidance that enabled the athletes to achieve this milestone.
Organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Khelo India Beach Games featured around 1,300 athletes from 31 States and Union Territories competing across eight sporting disciplines over six days. Since its inception, the event has served as a national platform fostering competitive excellence and exposure for emerging athletes.
The Nagaland Pencak Silat Association also extended its appreciation to the Sports Authority of India for including Pencak Silat in the Khelo India Games, thereby providing athletes from the Northeast and across the nation an opportunity to showcase their talent on a national stage.
