Nagaland: GNF concerned over factional violence in eastern homeland

DIMAPUR, JAN 14 (NPN)

The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has expressed deep sorrow and grave concern over recent factional violence between NSCN (Angmai Mulatonu) and NSCN (Yung Aung) in eastern part of Myanmar (Burma) occupied Naga homeland, which resulted in the loss of Naga lives.
GNF through its media cell stated that an armed incident, which occurred on January 9 followed by retaliatory action on January 12, has further aggravated an already fragile situation.

The forum described the killing of Nagas by Nagas as a tragedy that cannot be justified under any circumstance, regardless of provocation or retaliation.
At a time when Naga villages remained fragile, borders tense, and ordinary families continued to carry the burden of uncertainty, Global Naga Forum asserted that internal armed clashes only deepened fear, division, and irreversible loss
The forum said that every bullet fired at another Naga tears the moral fabric of Naga people, adding that such actions undermined the moral strength of Naga society and eroded the collective spirit of the Naga people.
In view of the deteriorating security situation, GNF has, therefore, announced the cancellation of its planned visit to the Naga New Year celebration at Layshi town scheduled from January 14-16, 2026.
The forum has strongly called for an immediate cessation of violence among Naga groups.
GNF stressed that differences to be addressed through dialogue and understanding rather than arms. It also reminded that the true cost was borne by mothers, youth, and villages living under the shadow of guns.
GNF has also appealed to all Naga groups in the eastern part of Naga homeland to exercise restraint and act with a sense of responsibility.
The forum underscored the need for unity, coexistence, and mutual respect in a sensitive region bordering diverse ethnic communities with varied aspirations.
Meanwhile, GNF has conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to those injured. “We stand with the people in their desire for peace – not with the violence,” GNF said.
