Nagaland: NSCN (YA) blames Angmai-Mulatonu for Pangsau tension

DIMAPUR

NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung) group on Wednesday accused the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) group of inciting violence in Eastern Nagaland and acting as a proxy of Indian intelligence agencies, alleging that its activities were aimed at undermining the Naga national movement.
In a press statement issued by its MIP, the NSCN (YA) claimed that Angmai-Mulatonu group had repeatedly shown “contempt for the peace aspirations of the Naga people” by provoking unrest in sensitive areas. It alleged that the group was working at the behest of Indian agencies to counter the struggle spearheaded by Yung Aung-led NSCN/GPRN.
The group expressed concern that at a time when Nagas continued to face hardships under what it described as “occupational forces,” the Angmai-Mulatonu faction had become an instrument of hostile forces, threatening stability in Eastern Nagaland. It alleged that since the emergence of the group, the public had suffered disunity, confusion, intimidation, heavy taxation and illegal road blockades.
Referring to the recent gunfight at Khamteng village near Pangsau town on January 9, NSCN (YA) said the incident was a result of the Angmai-Mulatonu group’s “arrogance” and its disregard for appeals from the public and warnings not to intrude into NSCN/GPRN-controlled areas. It claimed the group was responsible for escalating tension in the Pangsau and Namyong areas and for creating fear and insecurity among the public.
NSCN (YA) also accused the group of spreading misinformation and engaging in personal attacks to influence public opinion. It rejected allegations made against its president, Yung Aung, stating that he was duly endorsed and elected by party members, including Angmai himself, in 2018.
Further, the group cautioned against implicating “revolutionary partners and friends” in the present conflict, stating that such attempts would not be taken lightly. It also alleged that Indian agencies were tolerating and supporting the Angmai-Mulatonu group, including through the provision of arms and financial assistance, to weaken the NSCN/GPRN in the Pangsau area.
Calling this an eye-opener for Nagas, NSCN (YA) said such politics would undermine, rather than protect, Naga identity. It urged the Angmai-Mulatonu group to stop sowing discord, deceiving the public and interfering in Naga politics for personal gain, and called upon them to come overground if they genuinely desired peace and development.
