Nagaland: KVK Wokha charts action plan for 2026

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha under the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, convened its Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting–2026 on January 16 at the Conference Hall, KVK Wokha. The meeting was held to formulate the Scientific Action Plan for 2026 and to review the achievements of 2025.
The programme began with a welcome address and release of publications by member secretary, SAC and Head, ICAR-KVK Wokha, Dr. Sandeep Deshmukh.
The meeting was chaired by SAC chairman and Head of Regional Centre, ICAR–Nagaland Centre, Dr. H. Kalita, who guided deliberations on proposed activities and future interventions.
During the technical session, CTO (Animal Science), Dr. Moaakum Pongen presented the Annual Progress Report for 2025, highlighting KVK’s activities and achievements. This was followed by CTO (Agronomy), Dr. N. Khumdemo Ezung, who presented the Annual Action Plan for 2026.
The plan outlined on-farm trials focusing on sustainability through the IFS model, gender integration in markets, pseudo-stem juice blending with passion fruits, sugarcane jaggery-based value addition, improving nutritional status of farm women, maize-based cropping systems, soybean performance and nutrition-sensitive agriculture.
Frontline demonstrations were also proposed on improved and climate-resilient nutri-smart varieties, breeds and flagship technologies for rural entrepreneurship development.
Farmers from SHGs, FPOs and Yuthi Delight shared grievances, views and suggestions, including crop choices and strengthening collaboration. Yuthi Delight highlighted the need for technical support to improve production and value addition. ICAR-KVK assured continued guidance and handholding support to farmers, SHGs, FPOs and agri-enterprise groups. Officials from the State Government, scientists from ICAR Nagaland Centre and Heads of various KVKs also offered inputs to strengthen future programmes.
The meeting concluded with remarks by representative of the Director, ICAR-ATARI and Senior Scientist, Dr. Prasantha Kumar Pathak, followed by closing remarks from chairman Dr. H. Kalita, who expressed satisfaction over the performance and visibility of KVK Wokha among stakeholders. Vote of thanks was proposed by CTO (Animal Science), Dr. Moaakum Pongen.
