Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has mourned the demise of Rev. Dr. Robert R. Cunville, a respected servant of God and a dear friend of the Naga people.
In a condolence note, NBCC general secretary, Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, described Rev. Cunville’s close association with the Nagas, particularly with the NBCC, as a great blessing. NBCC said as Associate Evangelist of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), Rev. Cunville carried a deep love and burden for the people of Nagaland and consistently upheld them in prayer and ministry.
NBCC recalled his active role during the historic Billy Graham Crusade held in Kohima in 1972, which remains vivid in the collective memory of the Nagas, especially among senior citizens. The crusade marked a significant milestone in the Christian history of Nagaland, bringing renewed faith, unity and revival among believers. His involvement contributed meaningfully to strengthening the evangelical witness in the region and left a lasting spiritual impact on countless lives.
The Council also remembered his recent message during “Nagaland United: A Gathering of Faith, Hope and Revival” organized by Kohima Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship, which continues to linger in the hearts of hearers. His words were noted for their clarity, conviction and pastoral concern for unity and renewal.
NBCC further said Rev. Cunville will be remembered as a humble and devoted man of God—soft-spoken, gracious, prayerful and deeply caring.
His life reflected Christ-like humility, gentleness and unwavering commitment to the Gospel. With his demise, the Christian world has lost a committed evangelical preacher whose ministry impacted thousands across nations.
NBCC thanked God for his life, witness and ministry, and for his enduring contribution to the spiritual journey of the Naga people. The Council prayed for God’s abiding comfort, peace and strength upon the bereaved family.
