Nagaland: 2 NAA officials attend AFI starters’ course in Patiala

DIMAPUR, JAN 20 (NPN)

Two officials from the Nagaland Athletics Association (NAA) participated in the Starters’ Course organized by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) from January 14 to 17, at the SAI Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NSNIS), Patiala.
The officials, B. Bongshet Phom and Tokuho Sumi, were nominated by the NAA to attend the programme, which was conducted under the expert guidance of Allan Bell from the United Kingdom. Bell, an internationally renowned Starter from the World Athletics Starters Panel, imparted advanced technical knowledge and shared global best practices in starting procedures, rules, and officiating standards in athletics.
A qualified Federation State Technical Official (FSTO) under AFI, Tokuho Sumi, holds a Bachelor of Physical Education and is presently serving as an Athletics Coach. His academic and technical background reflects strong professional expertise in the field. B. Bongshet Phom, a qualified District Technical Official (DTO) under AFI, is currently working as a Physical Education Teacher. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and has completed a Certificate in Athletics from NSNIS, Kolkata.
The Starters’ Course is designed to strengthen the technical capacity of athletics officials and ensure alignment with national and international officiating standards.
The participation of Nagaland Athletics Association officials in this programme marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of technical officiating in Nagaland.
The Nagaland Athletics Association expressed its sincere appreciation to the Athletics Federation of India for providing this valuable opportunity and reaffirmed its commitment to the continuous professional development of officials and coaches for the overall advancement of athletics in the state.
