In a major boost for football in the Northeast, a Deed of Contract was signed on Monday between the State Football Associations of the region and Japan-based firm Bestserv Inc. for the launch of the Northeast Football League.
The signing ceremony was held at Kiranshree Grand, Guwahati, marking a historic milestone for the development of football in the North Eastern states.
The proposed league aims to provide a structured professional platform for footballers from the region while also supporting State Football Associations in moving towards financial self-sustainability. The initiative is expected to strengthen the overall football ecosystem in the Northeast and create long-term opportunities for local talent.
Chairman of Bestserv Inc. Luis Nakawa and International Development Manager Josef Kovac attended the event, along with representatives from all eight State Football Associations of the North East.
According to the organisers, the Northeast Football League will play a key role in improving competitive standards, nurturing grassroots talent and exposing players to professional football environments. The league is also expected to contribute significantly to the growth and development of football across the region.
With the launch of the league, the Northeast is expected to take a decisive step towards emerging as a major hub of Indian football in the coming years.
