Nagaland: GPRN/NSCN (U) dispels rumours of defection

DIMAPUR

Ministry of Information and Publicity, GPRN/NSCN (Unification), under the leadership of president ‘Gen. (Retd.)’ M. B. Neokpao Konyak and ‘ato kilonser’ Alezo Venuh, has issued a statement to clarify prevailing confusion and set the record straight among the Naga people.
According to MIP of the group, kilonser, Ministry of Kilo Affairs, Huvito Yepthomi, convened an emergency meeting on January 21, 2026, at Zunheboto in coordination with the regional authority of the Sumi region.
MIP said the meeting was attended by a significant number of regional workers, contrary to reports alleging mass defection. Only a small handful of individuals were said to have defected along with former regional administrative officer (RAO), Hokishe Zhimomi.
Huvito, who personally monitored the situation in the Sumi region, expressed encouragement at the strong turnout and unity displayed.
In a unified voice, workers condemned the actions of their defected former leader and reaffirmed their loyalty and support to the leadership of president Gen. (Retd.) M. B. Neokpao Konyak and ato kilonser Alezo Venuh.
The kilonser reminded workers that the present unification under the leadership did not arise out of expediency but was the culmination of the collective aspiration of the Naga people, championed by civil society organisations in pursuit of peace, unity and harmony.
He asserted that the unification was both historically and morally justified.
Appealing to workers to continue their service with resilience and commitment, Huvito urged them to dedicate themselves to liberate the Naga people from occupational forces. He emphasized that this endeavour must be undertaken in consonance with Christian principles, as pledged by forefathers under the vision of “Nagaland for Christ.”
