Nagaland: S. Toiho attends 86th Presiding Officers’ Conference in Lucknow

DIMAPUR

Deputy Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, S. Toiho Yeptho, along with the secretary‑in‑charge and accompanying officers, attended the 86th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) held from January 18 to 21, 2026, at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
The gathering of legislative leaders from across the nation concluded successfully, reaffirming the collective commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and enhancing legislative practices.
The conference brought together Speakers, Deputy Speakers and Presiding Officers from various states and union territories to deliberate on pressing issues of governance, parliamentary procedure and institutional capacity.
During the first plenary session, Toiho delivered an address on the theme “Capacity Building of Legislators to Increase Efficiency and Strengthen Democratic Governance.” He emphasized the critical need for legislators to continually build their skills and knowledge to meet rising public expectations and the challenges posed by rapid technological change. He underscored that effective capacity building not only enhances legislative efficiency but also fortifies the democratic fabric of the nation. Highlighting Nagaland’s progress, Toiho stated that the state was not far behind the rest of the country in adopting best practices and strengthening democratic governance. Expressing pride in Nagaland’s legislative advancements, he acknowledged the importance of learning from the diverse experiences shared during the sessions.
“I have listened and learned many valuable lessons from the deliberations held during this conference. These insights will undoubtedly guide us in improving our legislative processes and ensuring that democracy continues to thrive,” he remarked.
