Nagaland: 5th edition of the Rüsoma Orange Festival 2026 on Jan 30 and 31

The 5th edition of the Rüsoma Orange Festival 2026 will be held on January 30 and 31 at Riisoma Local Ground under the aegis of the Riisoma Village Council, in partnership with several government departments, including the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, Rural Development Department, among others.
Addressing press conference on Jan 22 at Vivid Lounge ,organising committee member Neisatuonuo Zhale stated that this year’s festival is being organised under the theme “Abundance of Riisoma”, highlighting the importance and celebration of the abundance of Riisoma oranges along with other agricultural and horticultural organic products and local handicrafts.
Neisatuonuo informed that the festival will also feature various activities including cultural presentations, fun games, and stalls offering fast food, local cuisines, orange saplings and more.
She also highlighted that the first orange tree in Riisoma is believed to have been planted during 1941–1942. In 1986, Riisoma was adopted and declared a ‘Gardening Village,’ and in 2020, the first edition of the Riisoma Orange Festival was launched.
Expressing gratitude for the journey so far, Zhale stated that the festival aims to promote the welfare of the village, encourage rural entrepreneurship, recognise the hard labour of orange growers, and offer visitors the unique taste of Riisoma oranges.
The inaugural function will be held on January 30 at 10:00 am. where H. Tovihoto Ayemi, MLA and advisor, department of tribal affairs & election, will grace the occasion as the special guest. The inaugural programme will be chaired by Kekhrie Pfukha, with invocation by Rev. Medoneiu Üsou. The welcome address will be delivered by Visier Vimera, convener of the Organising Committee, followed by a special song by Medokhrieü Pfukri, an address by the special guest, and the formal opening of stalls.
It had been informed that during the festival, the price of oranges has been fixed with an upper limit of Rs 140 per kg, depending on the quality of the produce and the seller. It was also informed that facilities such as local guides will be provided for visitors interested in visiting the orange orchards. It was also noted that Riisoma village comprises 570 households, out of which around 470 households are engaged in orange farming.
