In a major move to strengthen healthcare delivery, Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre (NGISRSC) and Department of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to integrate drone technology into the State’s healthcare framework.
The signing took place at the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima on January 22.
The partnership aims to tackle challenges posed by Nagaland’s difficult terrain and limited accessibility by using drones for emergency medical supply delivery, disease outbreak response, natural calamity relief, aerial vector control, and geospatial mapping for informed planning.
Under the MoA, NGISRSC will manage drone operations, capacity building, data analysis, and regulatory compliance, while H&FW will provide logistical support, coordination, and deployment planning.
Senior project director of NGISRSC, Er. Mhathung Kithan, highlighted that integrating emerging technologies like drones would significantly improve the efficiency of healthcare delivery across the State. Principal director of H&FW, Dr. Mereninla Senlem, added that the collaboration would enhance Nagaland’s preparedness and response during emergencies, ensuring timely delivery of essential medical supplies.
The MoA marks a key milestone in Nagaland’s move towards technology-enabled, resilient healthcare and serves as a model for inter-departmental collaboration in leveraging innovation for public welfare.
